community beautification, wilderness restoration, and Environmental justice education in (Y)our Neighborhoods

RECREATE

Hikes, walks, and outdoor activities in Los Angeles provide a space where exploration and curiosity meet to build memorable connections.

EDUCATE

By teaching place-based environmental justice topics, participants receive a relevant and diverse interpretation of the communities where they live.

(CO)ADAPT

Engaging in community beautification and wilderness restoration projects that provide positive, tangible change in the daily lives of Angelinos.

Land acknowledgement

REC organizes in the San Fernando Valley and alongside the LA River Watershed, the ancestral home of the Tataviam, Tongva, Kizh, Serrano, and Chumash Peoples. We recognize and honor the inextricable cultural and spiritual relationship between the original stewards of what is now known as Los Angeles County and the flora, fauna, and soil that we have forcibly removed and occupied. We acknowledge that the environmental movement has always been led by Indigenous Peoples and that environmental stewardship has been known and perfected by these groups for thousands of years. REC is committed to dismantling systems of oppression that have historically promoted environmental injustice within low-income BIPOC communities.
